Amend Dover Advocate100
City of Newton vs. Boston College and the impact of the Dover Amendment
About 17 acres of Webster Woods, along Newton’s beautiful Hammond Pond Parkway is now at risk due to the archaic language of the Dover Amendment. Preserving these woods could cost the City of Newton some 17 million dollars. Seeking to preserve the woodlands of this historic and iconic area, Mayor Fuller has proposed raising funds for an eminent domain “take" of the area, preventing Boston College from planning destroying the woodlands. This confrontation would never exist if H.1765 is passed: H.1765: an Act to prevent non profit institutions from avoiding wetlands and natural resource protections. Write to your reps on Beacon Hill. Tell them to support H.1765.
